i thought it was okay, not really something i'd re-watch though
however i thought the scenery at the beginning was stunning

Just got back from it, I thought it was amazing but the rest of the people in my group either thought it was ok or it sucked.

No it is not an Alien prequel, its set on a different planet in a different time. If there are sequels which Im sure there will be, its probably just an alternate storyline in the same universe.

i didnt really find it scary and i'm easy to scare
granted some scenes made me cringe but it wasn't that bad
