No, I understand money making. Wal-mart makes millions a year by crushing the competition.

There should be a law that prevents such big chains from sucking the life dry of small businesses.

you're so stupid.

I'm pretty sure there's an anti-monopoly law but at the end of the day Walmart is free to do as it pleases, provided it does not completely control the market in the country.

Walmart will undercut and oust dozens of businesses within a small area, while bringing almost no revenue to that area. With the smaller number of jobs available, the net gain of jobs in that area will be negative. That's a lot of people losing their livelihood. Those people will have to look for work in other towns, towns that already lack enough jobs to go around. The surrounding area will become poorer as a result.

Wal-Mart literally sucks the life out of local economies.

Monopolization is illegal.

Monopolization is illegal.

Then they shouldn't be allowed to do that in my example pic. If that isn't Monopolization then what is?

Those two stores have been next to each other for almost 20 years. Wal-mart decided to crush the competition by putting a grocery store in their store.

People act like everything done is so permanent. All it takes is one war and none of this stuff matters.
If you don't like their business practices, see if you can join any movements against them or start one.

The current economic system is merely an abstracted/evolved form of handing someone a shiny rock for a chicken. The downside is that since this new form has no physical backing, the concept of wealth and value is nothing more than a shared idea between individuals in society taught that this is the way things are.
Just over a hundred years ago and you could still easily buy things with gold.

While its cool the way the systems have come together to allow for rapid development, it will come at the price of local businesses like that. (unless of course such business practices prove to be fatal in themselves. As specialization almost always seems to win out over generalization when observing socio-economical systems, Walmart versus specific retailers in this case, walmart may not win.  Then again, though, the power of compounded wealth is quite something to behold, and even if they did today start loosing steam, walmart will likely be around for a long time)

I predict a different economy emerging with multiple specialized markets for certain products. Perhaps still relying on our nothing-backed dollar, but I hope a better system can be worked out.

The problem is they specialize in monopolizing within local areas one at a time instead of on a wider scale all at once. This makes just enough controversy over what they're doing to allow them to get away with it.

I have gas wars down here, there's 2 gas station RIGHT next to eachother and one always has 1 or 2 cents less than the other

Wal-mart sucks the life dry out of local businesses but if Wal-mart ever went out of buisness it would perhaps crash the economy.

Why soest the walmart employ the people from the small buisneases?

What do you think would happen if Wal-mart went out of buisness?

Their prices can only go so low and the more demand means more supply however they may not get enough money for their supplies so they would have to increase their prices thus causing people to stop coming to wal-mart.
