I was interested in Alienware until I found scores of review websites with people complaining that the machines would fail and customer service basically ignored them.

Dell has always been known for utterly stuff customer service. Imo you'd be better off with an Asus gaming computer.

i dont think that kind of money should be spent on a laptop. i wouldnt spend more then 1500 on a gaming one.
if you need better, you should be gaming on a desktop.

My ~$200 laptop could run the Source engine at decent graphics at a reasonable FPS.

The reason I say "could" is because I loaded it up with a bunch of stuff. Now it has trouble rendering most 3D games on lowest settings.
