Author Topic: Weird File on the Desktop  (Read 1865 times)

There is this mysterious file on the desktop, it has the default windows icon (the unknown archive icon), it has no name, no extension, and when right-clicked, it only has the options "Cut", "Create Shortcut" and "Delete". I tried deleting it, but when I refresh the desktop it returns.

I try to access the desktop via a windows explorer window, but to my surprise the file won't show in there.
This is scaring me. I created a new user account, logged onto there and the file was there.

I ran a virus scan with Bitdefender and SUPERantispyware. NOTHING.

For some strange reason, the quick search on the toolbar isn't working correctly either. It doesn't index files on the Start Menu. I tried rebuilding the index cache but it doesn't work.

Some files from the Add/Remove programs also won't unninstall. I get this error:
"could not find the key: unknown\installer\products\b846977cE014ABB47BB58551CBFE7ED1\Sourcelist\Media"

How big is it?

Is there no properties option either?

Also, try disabling hidden files/folders.

nuope. :(

it has no properties button, it's not hidden either.

hm, i recall installing the program "Perfect Uninstaller", which was when all the havoc began, i did some research on the program and found no incidents.

I've had a similar problem, it's just an unfinished file that was left over when you install something.

To get rid of it you just need to, uh I forgot.

Your probably going to die,
sorry.
