Clearly. Because you straight up said the main point was that they shouldn't be forced.
They shouldn't be forced (unless necessary, ie gameplay being almost or completely unplayable without them), but it'd definitely be better to have them.

I remember a RPG that had a scripted or evented battle system, it worked really really well.

It's a shame I couldn't host my evented RPG's more.

I don't know it was a very long time ago, I recall being in a pvp using variables, I had a sythe, the battle showed up in chat, mideval town, battle arena that was just for decor in a way.

Otto-san, have you ever tried my RPG? I agree with many things in your post, and I am wondering if you have any complains about my RPG in particular.
Your RPG isn't actually that bad, but there's some things I personally don't like about it. The combat is kinda silly, there's no reason why you shouldn't just fight the 'strongest' thing since you just have to walk backwards to be able to not get hit. The EXP gotten from a monster seems to be based off of how many hits it takes with a club, and not only that, it's all constant. No randomization. The AI isn't too bad though, and the monsters attack in a way that isn't silly. Right off the bat, I was told "You can only chat with other people who are loading.". I'm not entirely certain of how talking works, but it seems to be a local chat sort of thing, which would be fine if people used it. There's no real reason for anyone else to be around. The only other complaints I have are that the environment is a bit boring and that mining is kinda silly. I like the character system and the quest system. There just needs to be a better way to interface things.

Of course, it's obviously early in development. Hopefully it'll be a lot better when it's out of beta.
