Author Topic: I have a few questions about purchasing the retail key...  (Read 2068 times)

I've been a big fan of Blockland for awhile now, and I've been kind of debating purchasing retail up until now. It looks really great and I'd love to be able to work with the new stuff, but I have a question. If I buy the activation key and use it on two different IP addresses, will it be banned? I ask because I frequently travel between two different houses, and if there is going to be a problem with using it at both houses I need to know before I spend money on it. I have checked the FAQ and it kind of addressed the question, however I'd like to know for sure before I go ahead and go through with it. I'll definitely be buying, it's just a matter of activating it now or on Tuesday when I return to the house I'm at most often.

Also one more thing, I'm kind of new to the Blockland forums and when I entered the Add-Ons forum I noticed that topics don't contain links to the downloads. Am I missing something obvious or is there another location where I can look up the Add-Ons for download? Sorry, I'm sure that's probably a noob question but I couldn't figure it out :|

Thanks for any help and I apologize if this has been asked a lot.

Q: Will it be banned?
A: No, can only use it on one IP at a time, but if you travel between houses, you'll be okay. Just can't use it on two IPs at once, but you can log on from multiple IPs at different, separate times. (Note: http://www.blockland.us/index.asp?p=faq#general Pre-Purchase FAQ Question #4)

Q: No download links?
A: Many used BJ Mods, or whatever it was. That site went down so those links (which were graphical links) no longer show. Ask in the thread of the add-on, sure something will re-host it for you.

Hope those answered your questions.

Thanks, and it did. However one more thing came up while playing the demo (I hadn't tried it before, thinking it'd be more or less the same).

I noticed in the admin menu for the demo that I couldn't adjust the jet settings or toggle build through/float on and off. Is this unlocked for the full version? A lot of my builds are fairly unrealistic and require random floating bricks >_>

Again, sorry if this is answered somewhere, I'm used to the RTB site.

Unfortunately, Jets aren't adjustable, although the may seem unbearably slow compared to RTB. You'll grow into them, and realize RTB's jets were way too fast. One hint, if you jump before jetting, you'll jet to speed faster.

Also, Build Through, and Floating bricks is another thing lost. Badspot has meant for Retail to be for realistic building. Ex. Can't build it like that in real life, can't in-game. No mod/add-on has been made to allow this yet, but sure if it were, it would have to be underground, otherwise Badspot would be more than likely to remove the thread. Another hint, if you wanting floating bricks, you could put 1x1 brick under it (Ex. for space ships, or airplanes), and paint it invisible. You'll have to do your own post searching for that one. But again, you'll grow to realizing that build through and floating is not necessary, but was nice, I'll admit that :)

Hmm....thanks I guess :|

I've also noticed another thing - no editor wand. I'll be keeping my old RTB files I guess. I'm sure I'll grow into the realism but nothing will compare to the fun I had with that stuff.

Lawl, yeah, no Editors' Wand, but there is still F11... One good thing I guess.

But yeah, I remember the day Retail was released, a lot of RTB players, including myself, missed those tools of RTB, but as we've all grown to play without them, and learn it was for the best.

Some tools, add-ons rather, are out there that sorta do the job... But as you know RTB is making a mod for Retail, don't know what it all will include as for features we knew, and loved in RTB. We'll just have to wait and see.

RTB is still a good game to play, I tried it out again just last week, couldn't stand playing it, too much different from Retail. Jet is what got me, Jump, jet, I'm on the other side of the map in 1 second. I lawl'd at it...

Oh and one last thing, since there's no editor wand I'm going to go ahead and hope that they fixed the lag problems original Blockland had, right? As in mass amounts of bricks won't make the server unplayable?

There is hardly any lag. Bapspot had a good example on this, dunno what thread it was, too lazy to search.

But you can have massive city builds with 25+ builds, lag a little, but compared to thr original Blockland, you'd lag with 1 building. Vehicles are another big improvement, no lag on those either.

Most of the lag you will even experience on Retail is from players with slow connections, or if you PC is slow, and can't handle particles that well. Ex. Fire particles, with the FireFighting add-on, I've had a lot of people lag because of the fire.

Also, you'll lag a bit when loading bricks, but that'll go away once they are loaded.

Long story short, massive original Blockland lag is a thing in the past.

Okay, thanks a bunch. I'll probably be buying the key later today.

Thanks again for dealing with my questions

Argh, sorry for the double post.

Do you unlock more bricks with the full version? And why aren't there movers? Finally, how do you access F11?

Bricks are virtually unlimited, 128,000 is the limit I think, but that can be increased if you EVER reach that brick count level.

Movers, I believe that was just hack in the original blockland's code, and isn't included in Retail. Not sure if RTB's Retail MOD will include movers or not, I wanna say I remember reading they wouldn't. Not sure to be honest.

Mission Editor can be download from here: http://www.blockland.us/index.asp?p=Download

Just un-rar it into your Blockland directory. Make a shortcut of the Blockland.exe, Right-Click it, go into Properties, Under the Target field, add "-mod editor" without quotes, should look like: "C:\Program Files\Blockland\Blockland.exe" -mod editor

Actually, 128k is the absolute maximum amount of bricks you can have in a server.
It's been tried, (going over that) but all have failed...

Really? Never tried, $Pref::Server::BrickLimit = "128000"; is the code to alter in server prefs.cs, but never tried to actually build over the limit, lawl.

I didn't mean number of bricks, I meant different bricks. Are there any? Such as different windows?

There are add-ons for additional bricks, and windows (glass tents).
