We tried hard to come up with a good balance, and we believe this is a good way. Having furniture purchasable will promote people to explore/adventure and mine to build up resources, so that they may decorate their base and show off to their friends. It also addresses the issue that only skilled builders will have something to show off in their base.
We will still find a way to give players more creative control over their base, so we will keep you guys updated.

Allow creation of furniture for a cost, it then goes through moderation for quality then becomes buyable
You get a small amount of every purchase until you've got 2x what you paid to put it in back from it, as an incentive to make nice things

So essentially:
  • You pay a deposit proportional to the size of the furniture (in 2x2 cubes, height also variable)
  • You design your piece of furniture and submit it to the market
  • An admin can check unapproved furniture on the market and approve it (or decline with a message)
  • Once it's approved, any person can buy the furniture
  • A percentage of the cost of that purchase goes to the creator until the total gained is 2x the deposit
For colorable areas: Any bricks with the rainbow effect can be colored. All bricks of the same paint color that are colorable are colored together. So you have a red, blue and green brick, all with rainbow applied; coloring the red brick will color all other red bricks but leave blue and green ones alone.
Some other additions would be nice, like a 'gem slot' for placing trophy gems (2x2 cube in size) and stuff like that.

Also, once you've mined out like 10 gems from a block break it so you can expand your base, and have stairs, railings, walls, carpets and other buildy stuff purchaseable as furniture, so we can expand our base and change up the layout with items

Great ideas here and I'll be sure to look at them.

User-created furniture for sale sounds awesome and I'll definitely try to get that implemented. As far as mining goes, all of that is done in the main cavern system, not within your bases. Your base can be expanded in any direction except vertical (you have 2 8x cubes as far as height goes). We're not exactly sure the method of expanding your base, but I'm thinking certain items can be purchased that will break down walls and expand the base (similar to how you've seen done in mining mods).

I don't quite understand what you meant about the coloring of furniture. Currently planned: furniture will have certain bricks that can be changed to a different color according to what color you've extracted from your gems. Multiple colors are not currently planned, but that (as well as most everything else) is subject to possible change.

Well, if you essentially make it modular in such a way that it is aware of 'color groups' it shouldn't be too hard to make multiple colorable areas of multiple bricks each within the same piece of furniture. I think doing this should really be done before placement though - doing it within the actual world means that every brick has to be aware of the specific piece of furniture to which it belongs, which could be a pretty large amount of extra overhead. Then again, I guess they'll need that anyway for furniture to be able to be picked up again? Depends how you implement that.

Sound good, i keep it in mind =)

Color groups currently use 1 color to indicate it's a group, which is Mono - 2, which is only found on lil's server.

Oh god I loved that feature in pokemon diamond/pearl. Can't wait for this to come out.

EDIT: There will be traps right?

Why not? We'll be looking at all those additional features after a lot of the core functionality is finished.

The only difficult thing about traps would be allowing you to see your own, as rendering is sent to all the players. There might be a way, but I can't guarantee that it's possible.

Maybe just a text warning and a velocity stop. Also, you could maybe do a text warning and make the player's view swing to look at the trap.

There should be base events, like cash bonus for most gems or something

Each player has a base, they start off small using pickaxes but they can upgrade and have machines. You can then sell resources or use them.
Sound col?

Each player finds a spot, makes a base, uses a regular pickaxe, and sell and buy from vendors.
Saying as it is right now.

Please, PLEASE, include traps. Those were the best in diamond/pearl. Also just like in the game there should machines that you can put in your base. (Just like traps only placable inside your base)

Hey guys! Coming in with a quick update!

TRAPS:
Yessir we're adding traps!
There are currently 5 traps planned, which will work by being invisible. You cannot trip your own traps, which will be ensured.
You will be able to activate them on purpose if you click on them.
Here are 4 currently not "finished" if you will.

From left to Right:
Tumble, Spin, Encase, Teleport
Tumble tumbles you. Thats all it is, Spin spins your character around a few times before stopping, Encase encases you in a small wall of bricks, and we plan teleport to teleport you into a random place nearby.
The fifth?
LAUNCHERS!

You may notice the colors. These change the intensity, which will work for all, for example Alarm Red will make teleport teleport you anywhere in the mine.
From left to right:
Shove, A Kick in the Pants, The Cold Boot, Missile, Atomic Missile
This is an over head view on launch distances*, the colors correspond with launchers.

As you can see, Atomic missile launches you afar, this distance can clear a most tunnels in a few seconds flat.
Of course traps will be purchasable, however, parts for them will be mineable.
Yes, traps will also be craftable, and "mineable".
When a trap is activated, it is discarded.

*Assuming the player does not move.

FOSSILS:
Simple. Mine them, trophytize them, sell them.
They're worth a lot.
