Author Topic: Here I Go Again...  (Read 1107 times)

A while back my main computer got a virus, and the compy got majorly screwed over while trying to fix it. Eventually we had to just do a total hard drive wipe as a last ditch attempt since NOTHING else could fix it. I and my dad salvaged what we could of the files but blockland never made it on to the back up somehow. So all my add-ons, all my saves and builds I had worked so hard for were down the drain. I was so discouraged that I never played it very hardily ever again, play mostly TF2 instead.

So I've decided that it would be a good idea to start up anew, hoping that I could rebuild what was lost.

But it's been so freaking long since I've last played I don't know what to expect from modern Blockland.
So I need some tips and pointers. Has blockland changed at all? In what ways and how do I adapt to them? Any essential add- ons that would be useful at all?

Edit: Re-installing blockland right now. What the heck, 999 files?

Okay, problem one.
An error continues to pop up saying that bzip2 failed to decompress and doesn't allow me to install any further.
What the heck?
EDIT: I guess this goes in the help topic...

Same thing happened to me, I got a virus and backed up everything I could but Blockland didn't get backed up, I lost tons of saves which I spent hours building. It just completely discouraged me to do anything at all in Blockland. But I just kept going and playing on servers, I don't build much though because of the incident. But hey now I have like 3 anti-virus programs running at once :)

That's not a good thing at all. They're all competing for resources. I wouldn't be surprised if your computer ran like stuff.

That's actually not a very good thing...

But anyway,
Blockland hasn't really changed all that much. Duplicator and Fillcan are still basically the essentials. You probably already know this, but it'd also be worth getting used to building on slate Adjustable Plate is an awesome map- a lot of servers use it. It let's you make your own slate design without needing to open Mission Editor and make a new map altogether. Supports saving and loading, so that's always handy.
There are a few good mods flying around, but I'm not really paying close attention.
Don't forget to download JVS if you like that sort of stuff in your build. Some great packs out there!
Also, if you want server traffic, either get a dedicated through Kalphiter's hosting service, host your own dedicated or make some awesome, new and innovative.
Race Tracks seem to be all the rage right now.

Welcome back, by the way!

Play the Tutorial, that will get you back in.

Your only suppose to have 1.

Not good. Multiple antivirus software installed on one machine and running at the same time cause the two (or more) to start conflicting with each other.
I remember when I installed BitDefender on a machine with Kaspersky Antivirus, BitDefender ended up putting Kaspersky in a chokehold and claimed how it was installed with a stuffload of malicious software.

I'm gonna just say that I know the feeling, we lost our old computer to Zoo Tycoon 3.

I'm serious.

My brother was completely zoomed in on someone and he zoomed out so fast that he caused these weird glitchy bars to appear ALL OVER the screen and the computer became prettymuch unusable.

here's an idea

back up your saves to your dropbox private folders, kids.

Okay, I finnally got it downloaded on a different computer, so I'm back in blockland.
In-game  name is Prof. Luigi!
Look out for me.
:)

First thought was something like
"GOIN DOWN THE ONLY ROAD I'VE EVER KNOOOWN"

That's why i save on a ftp...

Sibling rivalry!

OT: Sometimes I see if I can shove my saves into a 1+ GB USB drive, or back it before it happens.

Saving saves to a drive can also let me shove them into a new computer, or down my laptop's USB port. Portable builds!
