Author Topic: Old stuff Megathread  (Read 1584 times)

I suppose that I'm the only one who has a record player, or wants to listen to them. I got a bunch of records today, mainly Buddy Holly if you ever heard of him. The player I bought today though has like, CD, Cassette, MP3, Radio, and Vinyl, it's pretty lovey.
Any of you got Cassettes? Vinyl records? Turn tables? Turnips? If so, post and talk about em!

Are you buying records because you like the medium or are you buying them to be a hipster?
Personally I like records due to the original masters and the crackle sound out of them.

I only really buy records when it's something that's not on CD, or if it's a cheap LP.

I need a better turntable, though. The one I have has no anti-skate and has an irreplaceable ceramic cartridge instead of a magnetic one.

I buy only the old stuff. If a band produces an album that's on both CD and a record, I'll buy the CD everytime.

Same, but some of the indie bands I listen to release stuff that's exclusively on 7 or 12 inch records.

Also, my order with two LPs and a 7'' just shipped :D

EDIT: Picture of my current record collection (not counting the ones I got from thrift stores to sample)

I buy old records because I'm trying to keep the vintage feel alive. A whole era, lost, and I want to keep it alive. Not to mention old music sounds much better than this new trash.

If you do dig deep in, yes, there is a lot of good modern stuff.

Mind posting a picture of that?

Sure!

Is that a crosley? Those are kind of known to be harmful to records. As long as you have the counterweight and anti-skate set up right, it shouldn't do any damage unless you play the same record for a hundred times, though.

Here's mine

Not much better than yours. Same cartridge type, and mine doesn't even have anti-skate.

Looks nice! Yes sir, mines a Crosley. I haven't heard anything about them being harmful to the records.. but meh. I try not to play them too much.

I hang around on a few audiophile forums, and those are really the only places I've heard of crosleys causing problems. They might just be bashing them because they're not the $500 extreme audio belt-driven turntables everyone on there usually has.
