Author Topic: Before portforwarding, what should I try?  (Read 1778 times)

Alright, so first off, my parents are paranoid about portforwarding, and my mom thinks that portforwarding allows other "users" to hack in to our internet (all the computers in our house) and attack them with viruses, trojans, etc. I hate how my mom is paranoid like that, so I'm just asking, What should I try/do BEFORE portforwarding?

First off, what is the problem with blockland...

Download PF config, then enter the ports into it, (when your parents aren't home)
Then delete the program, and no one will ever know.
That's what I did.

Port forwarding is about as safe as anything else, all it's doing is redirecting certain traffic to your computer.

Unless you can port forward or enable UPnP, the chances are you won't be able to host an internet server for blockland.

Hmm, I'll probably do that.

Also, if you even can get hacked through hosting a server, they would just be able to get to your blockland folder, correct? (or is none of that even possible)

That's not how it works.

UPnP. (Which is automatic temporary port forwarding)

Could someone post or link me a list of places where I can enable UPnP for Windows 7? All I know of is Network Discovery setting and the blockland "Disable UPnP".

UPnP is a router and application setting. It has nothing to do with Win7.

You
Cant
Hack
Computers
Through
Blockland.

If portforwarding caused security issues, then every company with a website would be hacked.

Hacking through Blockland is so far, impossible. Port forwarding does nothing to decrease the security potential of your computer.

The only other thing you could do besides port forwarding is enabling UPnP

Hmm, alright, that would be all I need to know. Thanks!
