Author Topic: My first build!  (Read 5591 times)

Hi everyone, my name is BlockDuck and I just bought the game today. It's really great and I'm having lots of fun, and I recently completed my first build! I started work on it in the Demo version of Blockland and I finished it a little while ago.

I don't really know what to call it, however. It's sort of like a skyscraper, except It only has four floors. I started calling it a office building for some reason, and it kind of, stuck.

So here's my first build, my office building! :D

I spent a lot of work on this build, and I am very proud of it.

I would also like to thank my brother for showing me the basics of the game (controls and such) and showing me how to work the forums.

I was inspired by a lot of the default saves and most importantly 'Building 6'.

Hope you all like it! :-)

People can receive massive amount of tips / advice off their first build. This isn't like add-ons, where you have to learn by yourself.

@op

This is amazing for a first build, however, you should use this thread to accept as much criticism as you can to better yourself.

Your build is pretty boxy, try making ramps or other things along the exterior walls to give it a more bumpy realistic look. A small overhang ontop the roof is always nice. With exterior only builds, you should block out windows with a black brick. Try to break up the window pattern into nice patches.

Other than that, it looks really nice for a first build, better than the crap some other people push out as their first build and call it anything beyond spam. We expect great things from you in the future!

why would you even say this?
this is not some crappy addon that can actually trouble people.
this build is actually very amazing, i'm not sure if i could even place a brick properly when i first started.

Yeah, the duplicator is a grand tool, but don't depend on it a lot on most of your builds. Try a lot of different kinds of shapes to add flair to your builds.

oh, and the pictures are kinda small.
can you upload some bigger ones?

Thanks for the advice, I'll use this in the future.

The duplicator? What's that?

I'm sorry, I don't know how, but it looks like Plexious did, they're kind of blurry, though.

It's a tool that allows you to duplicate multiple bricks, kinda like copy/pasting something. I could duplicate your tower, and have 3 of them in an instant.

Also, this looks very nice for a first build, you've got lots of potential. Mind showing us some pics of the interior?

Wow. That's really neat. I might use that in my next build.

Thanks, I'll add some interior pictures soon.

Edit: Done.

:( I'm sorry. How do I take better ones? I'm doing Ctrl + Shift + P, which is what it said to do in the Controls.

Hit "~"
Type in "$megashotScaleFactor = 3;" without quotes.
Ctrl + Shift + P

Thanks, I'll try this, and add better screen-shots.

Edit: My computer is very slow and old, taking a normal DOF (I think that's what it's called) screen-shot takes about a minute from the time when I press the buttons to the time I can actually move my player, I tried doing the Megashot, and it took me ten minutes. Because of this huge wait, the Megashot just doesn't work out for me.

So I guess everyone will have to just put up with my tiny screen-shots for now.

The duplicator? What's that?

It's a tool you can use on a brick to duplicate all the bricks attached to it.
Kind of weird and tricky at first but once you get the hang of it you can succesfully duplicate to speed up your building.
