Author Topic: i constantly see people bashing Tom DeLonge (blink-182) on sucking at guitar.  (Read 6160 times)

whenever i see conversations about Tom DeLonge on the internet (looking up tabs or people's questions about playing their songs, etc.) i usually see people saying he's a horrible guitarist, and that he's sloppy.

is there anyone here who thinks so? because i can easily deny that he is a bad guitarist, and that he doesnt know what he's doing. if he plays a little sloppy, who cares? that's awesome. normally it sounds cool hitting wrong notes, like when he intentionally plays Going Away To College weird at the Big Day Out concert in Sydney in 2000.

and about people complaining that all he does is power chords and octaves?
that's unbelievably loving stupid when there's songs like Wasting Time or pretty much anything off Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch.

i'll link ShadowsfeaR to this thread since he's the only guitarist i know of here ;-;

I play bass and im pretty hot

i play guitar and bass fluently
get at me bro

I've never heard this guy before. But I can say that if people are complaining about power chords and octives, they haven't heard a song like Make Total Destroy by Periphery. The entire tapping intro is tapped octaves. 0 - 12 - 24 then to the third string, 0 - 12 - 24. Powerchords? Listen to In Flames, their stuff is amazing.

I only listen to Blink when I want to embrace the angsty 10 year old inside of my memories.

well now i cant go back because when you learn bass you can never learn guitar
also nice topic 200000

This applies for everyone in Blink 182. I had people telling me Travis Barker was a stuffty drummer.

Slightly on topic
Blink 182 is one of my favorite bands <3

He plays guitar and sings at the same time in both Blink-182 and Angels and Airwaves. That takes a good amount of talent to do both well at the same time.

i just think his voice is god awful

So much this

I play piano and sing, that kind of thing becomes easy with practice.

Blink-182 is down right my favorite band out there (avatar). People who bash on their techniques or skills are people who just don't like their music.
Travis Barker is an AMAZING drummer, people who say otherwise are just saying that because of the genre he associates himself with.
Mark Hoppus is defiantly  my biggest role model and inspiration, even though I play guitar over bass. His bass playing is simple, but his voice is like asdfasdf omgwtfbbq nice.
I love the Delonge man. He's no Steve Vai (insane guitar god), but he doesn't have to be for him to make great music. I've learned just about most of his songs, which is another cool thing about his playing. If you really like it you can learn to play it without insane difficulty.

Blink-182 are practically the kings of pop-punk.

Singing while playing isn't that hard, while I don't yet have the capacity to do so while playing guitar, I can on the piano because I've been playing long enough.

It's bad, get a better taste in music. There is way better music in the genre than this angst drenched pseudo hipster crap. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. If there is any 'king' of pop-punk (which isn't a real genre~) it's going to be Of Montreal.

You may not like his music, but this is about if you think he's a good guitarist, not whether you like his music or not.
