http://www.av-comparatives.org/
They have lots of antivirus reviews and can give you helpful information on choosing one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.cnet.com/
Before you download any antiviruses from here the user reviews can be helpful and can give you insight on your path to antiviruses.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.pcworld.com/
This is an especially good place for antivirus reviews although pcmag may help you more.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.pcmag.com/
Is very good when it comes to this kind of thing although some reviews may be a little off as with all sites.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter Two: The Antivirus's
Yep thats right you cant have a antivirus megathread without antiviruses

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Security Essentials
Is a good antivirus made by microsoft(obviously) it has easy user interface, scanning  and easy update, It basically acts as a antivirus and antispyware and has overall good features.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AVG
Avg is also a good antivirus it has a free and a paid version nice interface browser security good scanning a vault and overall wonderful features.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Avast
Is also a nice and very good antivirus comes with a vault similiar to avg has browser protection, amazing scanning and alot of other features.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUPERAntispyware
This is commonly used in conjunction with malwarebytes it has a paid and free version both are good, You also have access to special antihijack protection in both.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spyware Doctor
This wonderful program is made by pctools, it has good protection and comes with free and paid versions, Free provides limited security but still good browser and antirookit protection, paid comes with all of that and more including a free antivirus however its a subscription.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BitDefender
This is a top-of-the-line fast and easy antivirus it has extensions on various sites and is overall good.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trendmicro
This is yet another good antivirus.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eset Nod32
Now eset not only provides excellent and good protection its wonderful "Futuristic"
interface allows for even more protection and lots of products to choose from.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ad-Aware
Let me just tell you right now this is good for way more then just against adware it also good at removing numerous viruses and is one of the very uncommon non commercial antiviruses.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spybot Search and Destroy
This small program is made directly by safer networking. it has a long arsenal of features and utillies to keep your system safe and working at its best, and of course it is free.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Malwarebytes
This is probably the best antimalware scanner i have ever used its pro version provides some of the best browser security around and overall is barely surpassed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UVK
This is honestly one of the best least known antivirus systems around.
With this wonderful tool you can immunize your system get a process manager saves your criticalsystem points and can overall download various other antimalware programs from it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mcafee
IMO Is on the same scale as normal its seemingly good and you should give it a try.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaspersky
Is also a very good antivirus has slightly higher detection then comodo in some areas.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Norton
Symantec's so called "Top Antivirus" you might find some use for it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Avira
Is an okay antivirus i guess and it works effectively.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Three: The Utilities.
These are vital as they can help you download antimalware incase of emergency infection or additional scanning and can also shutdown rogues.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Combofix
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hijackthis
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rkill
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may be wondering why i made this thread, Well you see antivirus, firewall and antispyware are all important elements of this.

Malwarebytes, avast, and mcafees

AVG has done me good since 2007-2008
it's the free version too, it warns me about viruses and asks if it wants me to move them to a vault or delete them.

Malwarebytes and MyCoffee(McAfee).

Avast! Free antivirus with Avast Web-rep for web surfing.
Not an antivirus, but I like to run Glary Utilities after a scan to clean up junk and speed up my PC a little bit.

Well lets see how this works out now.

Avast! is best antivirus imo.

Hey, look  at this, just right when I need a new antivirus program.
Thanks OP.

Minor updated added a couple more.

I have always used AVG Free and I have never had any viruses, malware, spyware, adware, ..., false warnings or advertisements to upgrade to the full version.

Malwarebytes and MyCoffee(McAfee).
McAfee is a worthless turd. So is Norton. Never use let alone pay for either of these products.
