Author Topic: blow off some steam, bitch about your internet  (Read 1709 times)

alright, before I say anything, you guys with good/great/awesome internet can forget off into another thread, don't bother bragging to us poor, flatcap wearing scamps that live in boxes

Here be a thread to rant about your internet. I'll bitch about mine because holy goddamn is it bad. I use FairPoint, only because it's cheap and they seem to cover every rural area in the country. I can't say much about its service in other areas but there's stuffloads of complaints for New England (I'm situated in A whole Bunch of Treesville, NH.). The company is apparently run by pet rocks, as demonstrated by this Wikipedia quote:
Quote
Many other problems have plagued the New England subscribers of FairPoint's services, including thousands of serious and recurring billing errors, very poor customer service, lack of (and delay of) an electronic bill-pay option, slow or intermittent services, and sluggish and inadequate response to customer complaints and service issues. As of August 2009, the State of Vermont has been in the process of considering revoking FairPoint's right to provide services in that state. FairPoint has consistently failed to meet deadlines to provide a response to Vermont and other states about how they intend to resolve the numerous problems.

And if a bunch of Vermontian grandmas can complain enough to nearly ban FairPoint from their state, think about what that does to ping on games - I can barely play TF2 online and I can't at all play SMP Minecraft at all (mostly because of Mojang's stuffty netcode but w/e).

Come on now folks, it's your turn to vent about garbage internet. It would be interesting to hear from other rural-situated folks too!

I thought this might have to do with Steam... And slow download times for games due to sales upping download amount...

I live in a suburbian area outside of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I get internet from BellSouth Telecom., a subsidiary of AT&T.

It's stuff.

Our internet is constantly throttled. We were promised a 1 mb/s download speed, even WITHOUT highspeed internet. We get one-fifth of what we're promised and it takes me an hour to download 100 mbs It's complete bullstuff. We upgraded to high speed yesterday, but I'm expecting that our internet is still going to be throttled.

At our family business in IL we have MTCO, basically farmers internet. They have actually decent packages... for residential. I don't know what our speeds are SUPPOSED to be but we're getting like .18 mbp/s down and like .07 mbp/s up. Sometimes our internet will just randomly stop working for a few minutes, and other times our connection will slow immensely while under little to no use.

My internet isn't the best, but it works. It always goes out for ten minute at a certain time of day. Some kind of service refreshing process, maybe.

Nothing to rant about, my internet is just fine.

I see there is someone else on Fairpoint! It's nice to have a brother in hell.

Anywho I made a post about this:
We pay around $50-60 a month for 3Mb/s that is normally around 2.5Mb/s and almost never works. Our support ISP support is stuff and our internet drops out all the time and we have nothing else we can swap to besides Road Runner which my parents refuse to swap to because of their sleazy ethics of how they tell you the price after 12 months. (They don't, ever.)

Do you have any of these problems or is my life related to ISP's complete and utter stuff?
Surprisingly enough the showed up today (Less then an hour ago) and tested our line and told us one of our phones are shorting out the line so we unplugged it and we're seeing how it goes.

The fun part though is the fact they sent someone out... and we haven't called for like a month.

So... uh... this was posted in the Games forum, if anyone noticed? Maybe you slipped that into your posts I skimmed over...

Vermontian grandmas

there's periods of time throughout the day where my internet will start acting up and every server on every game will give me 200 - 400 ping. normally, it's around 30 - 40 ping. it does this randomly and continues for around 5 or so minutes. it could be that my good pc is underground in the basement, but it really pisses me off

I can't play minecraft on anything better than a short render distance.

that has nothing to do with internet

every time someone begins or ends a phone call, the internet stops for half a second, and takes about 7 seconds for the wifi to fix itself and for my computer to reset the airport connection.

My internet cut out today at a critical moment of my league game. was not impressed.
