6:13 AM - Sue: Since 1997, a national coalition of LGBT hate crime monitors have been culling reports of violence and harassment each year; they have tallied 232 murders thus far.

At least 22 people were killed in 2009 because of their perceived loveual orientation, four out of five of whom were people of color. Half of the victims were transgender women and most of the other half, according to the Anti-Violence Project, were men who were either dressed in typically feminine clothes at the time of their murder or were generally gender non-conforming.

"At the most basic level, gender-queer people of all colors lead precarious lives on many fronts. Studies have shown they are more likely to struggle finding self-supporting work, more likely to have trouble keeping stable housing, more likely to receive poor or even hostile health care. Little surprise, then, that they too often find themselves in life-threatening situations as well. "

A young transgender woman who was in a Baltimore, Maryland area McDonald’s was beaten by two teenagers on Monday, April 18, as she was trying to go to the restroom. As the incident began, a McDonald’s employee filmed the violent attack, which you can see below, and later posted the video on YouTube and reportedly to his Facebook page. The video shows McDonald’s employees did nothing to stop the attack, and actually laughing. The McDonald’s manager did little more than yell, “Stop!” Only one customer, a middle-aged woman — who subsequently also got pushed and kicked — made any attempt to aid the young transgender woman.

“On average, a transgender person is murdered every month in the United States. This violence is intolerable,” says Michael Silverman, Executive Director of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund.

37-year-old Brandy Martell was a trans activist and counselor in the East Bay, having organized the last five annual Transgender Days of Remembrance, honoring victims of trans hate. She was sitting in the driver's seat of her car with three friends around 3 a.m. Sunday near Franklin and 13th Streets when a pair of men approached the car and had a conversation. They informed the men that they were trans, and after an apparently cordial conversation, the men walked off, as Oakland North reports. Then around 5:15 a.m. the men returned, and one of them pointed the barrel of a gun through the driver's-side window and shot Martell twice. She tried to drive off, but only made it as far as the next intersection before succumbing to her wounds. The two men fled on foot. Martell's was one of three murders that occurred in the city that night.

Paige Clay, a transgender woman who many believed to be a rising luminary in Chicago's ball scene, was found apparently murdered in West Garfield Park.

Clay, 23, was found in an alley on the 4500 block of West Jackson on Monday, April 16 at 3:52 a.m. According to police, Clay suffered a gunshot wound to the head. No one is custody. Area North Detectives are investigating.

Police did not identify Clay. Rather, several community members confirmed her identity to Windy City Times. Clay received services at local LGBT agencies and was known in Chicago's ball scene.

The coroner’s report supposedly indicates trans woman Agnes Torres Sulca was tortured before she was killed last weekend.  She was found in a ravine near Atlixco, Mexico on Saturday.

The death of this well-known activist for transgender causes has many calling for a quick resolution into the crime. While some social media comments questions whether justice for Torres will happen, fearing Mexico’s tendency to silence activists, many others however, are hoping enough people pressure the state prosecutor into action.

The Vida Plena Puebla organization:  “We are distraught, pained, enraged and saddened by this crime, and feel powerless over how, yet again, a brave person has succumbed to the most brutal of gender-based violence. . . “

What a wonderful world we live in. Shouldn't care about it, though, 'cause

Savage read a sentence from the article stating that "it appeared the victim had been in the process of becoming a woman," to which Savage replied: "Yeah, process of becoming a woman -- psychopath. [She] should have been in a back ward in a straitjacket for years, howling on major medication." He went on to say, "And what's this sympathy, constant sympathy for loveually confused people? Why should we have constant sympathy for people who are freaks in every society?" adding, "But you know what? You're never gonna make me respect the freak. I don't want to respect the freak." Savage concluded: "The freak ought to be glad that they're allowed to walk around without begging for something. You know, I'm sick and tired of the whole country begging, bending over backwards for the junkie, the freak, the pervert, the illegal immigrant. All of them are better than everybody else. Sick. Everything is upside down."
Right?

ps if it isn't painfully obvious by now i'm trans

kidplasma is the reason I lost a lot of faith in humanity.

there's no reason to hate something we know nothing about. would I, a straight, male, white, protestant christian be able to relate to a gay, female, black atheist? no. doesn't mean we can't be friends. i don't hate anyone unless they show me a valid reason to hate them. that black woman i mentioned could be a great person that i'll be lifelong friends with, or she might be terrible to everyone. i don't know. just because they look different or act different than us doesn't mean we should hate or even dislike them.

if you feel with all your heart and mind that you want to be L/G/B/T/Q, then i respect that. i feel that i am a straight person. does that mean i should be judged?  does that mean, cells within cells, that we're different? no. it means that we look different on the outside.

I don't ever lose faith in humanity. But whenever I see gay posts on this forum I cringe. Gay people are soooo gayyy
