I think most people on here are too young to actually have had to go through that  but they probably have heard it before. I remember there was like a little icon on windows 98 on the bottom with like a phone and a yellow lightning bolt or something it's been so long and you double clicked it and then clicked connect and had to listen to that stuff while it connected. You had to disconnect after you were done because they charged you for it per minute like a phone. Good times good times.

Weirdly on the way home, me and my dad got into a conversation about modems and how stuffty they were.

I remember this. I actually used dial-up for a few years and that pay per minute was such a pain. That sound though. Nostalgia'd.

paying per minute is for chumps.

aol users had infinite time for 28 bucks a month

Im glad I never had to deal with the whole answer-the-phone-and-you-lost-connection crap. We had a dual-line in our house when I was younger so we could use the phones and the internet at the same time. I remember my friend only had one line though and it was annoying as hell.

I vaguely remember something about my dad hooking up a cord to the phone line, but I never really knew what it was all about. I don't think I ever heard the sound of the modem and if I did then I probably can't remember.

That's because you're only 13 :cookieMonster:
You should've been born in 1996, that's when games like Doom and Quake were the stuffs.

When I was younger I always thought it was just AOL that made this sound. I always dreamed of having a different internet.

Also, this kid I knew was listening to this dubstep song before - loving dial-up sounds; literally. I've lost hope in today's music.

I still remember having to close Internet Explorer 5 just to use the home phone.

I used to love picking up the phone to hear this.

Unfortunately, people can't really control when they're born.

I remember that noise when I had dial up.

"is anyone going to use the phone i want to play video games"
