One Piece is a manga and an anime series about a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffy who wants to become the Pirate King by sailing the great and mysterious sea called the Grand Line to find One Piece, the treasure left behind by the Gol D. Roger, who was executed 22 years before the storyline.
Another thing in the story is Devil Fruits, a mysterious fruit that grants the one who eats it a special power but takes away his or her ability to swim.
Main characters:
Monkey D. Luffy - A 17 year old boy who has a very strange personality. He is very brain-dead when it comes to the simplest things, and is always very reckless, which [SPOILER]
he showed to the entire world when he broke into the Marine's three main facilities: Enies Lobby, the island of justice, Impel Down to save Nico Robin, the underwater prison to save his brother, and Marineford, the marine headquarters to participate in the war to save his brother.[/SPOILER] He always wears a straw hat that was given to him by a now one of the most powerful people in the world when he was younger and made a promise to him that he'd return it someday. He has eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi(Rubber-Rubber Fruit in english), a devil fruit that he accidentally ate when he was 4. It turned his body into rubber and allows him to stretch and inflate. He is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and also the main character of the series. He currently has a bounty of 400,000,000 beli(the currency in the one piece world)
Roronoa Zoro: A 19 year old swordsman who wants to become the best swordsman in the world, and joined Luffy's crew because he was imprisoned but Luffy rescued him. He wields three swords and uses his self-invented "Three-Sword Style" to fight. He is considered as Sanji's rival as they always fight. He currently has a bounty of 120,000,000 beli.
Nami: A 18 year old girl. She is the navigator of the crew and her dream is to draw a map of the entire world. She fights using her Clima-Tact, a staff that allows one to control the weather. She cares more about money than anything else, and knows that Sanji will do everything for her and often abuses it. She is considered a "devil" by some people. She has a bounty of 16,000,000 beli.
Sanji: A 19 year old cook who falls in love with almost every beautiful woman he meets. He is a ladies-man and often only beats up opponents because "they dared to hurt a lady". His dream is to find All Blue, a special sea where fish of all seas swim, a cook's paradise. He fights using his kicking techniques, because if he were to fight with his fists he might one day lose his hands in a battle with a swordsman and he wouldn't be able to cook anymore. He is Zoro's rival as they always fight. He has a bounty of 77,000,000 beli.
Usopp: A 17 year old long-nosed sniper whose dream is to become "a brave man of the sea" and a king of snipers.
He is cowardly in battle but has proven that he has the skills to fight seriously numerous times. He has a persona named "Sogeking"(sniper king translated into english). The man on his wanted poster is also known as "Sogeking" and not as Usopp himself, as he gained it while he was in his persona. However, the only ones who have ever been seen to fall for the disguise are Chopper and Luffy. He has a bounty of 30,000,000 beli.
Chopper: A 15 year old human-reindeer who has eaten the Hito Hito no Mi(Human-Human Fruit in english), which allows him to transform into different human-like forms. He is the doctor of the crew and is sometimes just as brain-dead as Luffy, seeing how he also felt for Usopp's disguise. He has a bounty of only 50 beli due to a mistake at the Marine Headquarters who saw him as the pet of the crew. His dream is to become the greatest doctor of the world.
Nico Robin: A 28 year old woman who is the archaeologist of the crew. She has a very dark personality, often saying things like "I hope you don't fall, because you will have no hope of living anymore if you do." to Nami when she was about to swing off the ship over the clouds on Skypiea, a sky-island. She has eaten the Hana Hana no Mi(Flower-Flower Fruit in english) which allows her to sprout her body parts on whatever surface she wants. She has a bounty of 81,000,000 beli. Her dream is to find the True History, but it's not really sure what this is yet.
Franky: A blue-haired cyborg who is the shipwright of the crew. He has a storage in his stomach for cola bottles which give him energy. Whenever somebody tells a story about their sad past or anything like that, he will cry. He comes from the City of Water called Water 7 and was once leader of a gang named the Franky Brothers. He has a bounty of 44,000,000 beli. His dream is to build a dream ship that will surpass even the ship of the Pirate King, which was build by Tom, a fishman who took care of him in his childhood.
Brook: A human skeleton who is the musician of the crew and has eaten the Yomi Yomi no Mi(Revive-Revive Fruit in english), which explains how he is a living skeleton. It granted him the ability to revive while the rest of his crew died. His soul was restored and therefore could return to his body but he got lost and it took him a year to find his body, of which the skin had already disappeared and it was nothing but a skeleton. He couldn't get out of the stormy sea he was drifting on because his shadow was stolen by Gekko Moria, a man who ate the Kage Kage no Mi(Shadow-Shadow Fruit in english) which allowed him to steal shadows. So he was stuck there for 50 years until the Straw Hat Pirates arrived there and helped him get his shadow back. He then happily joined their crew and became their musician. His dream is to deliver a Tone Dial(a shell that can be used as a recording device) to Laboon, a whale his crew became friends with when first entering the Grand Line. They promised they would come back and he is carrying on their dream as they all died in battle. He has a bounty of 33,000,000 beli.
Anyways, if you don't watch One Piece, you should seriously try it. It seems boring at first but then it gets more epic as the storyline progresses and eventually you just can't stop watching. At least, that's what happened to me. But you should still try it.
