So in about May, a friend of mine (Let's just call him P) said he'd sell me a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for about $425. I said there's no way I'd have the money right now but in August I'm getting a stuff load of money ($10k to be exact).
P wasn't interested, and left. After about 5 days he called me saying he was getting no dice on his phone. He wanted an HTC One X, which was newer, more powerful, and sleeker. I thought it was a bad idea, but he insisted. Then he explained that if I could give him about $120 right now, he'd give me the phone but he would need the rest of the money by August. I said sure, why not. I was in need of a new phone anyways.
So we meet up, he gives me the phone and I give him the $120 he wanted. I told him august for sure if he wants the rest.
I'm loving this phone to death, and he gets his HTC. He's not so thrilled for some reason.
Here's where it gets stuffty.
Fast forward to last Thursday. P texts me and says he wants his money NOW. I told him I can't, I promised by August and I don't have the money. He tells me that won't work, because he dropped his HTC and smashed it, and he needs to get a new Nexus because it's the only one his mobile provider will let him have and he's leaving for Atlanta soon. I said there's no way I can get it, I have no money and I can't make that much money that quickly.
P says he needs the money by the 26th or else he's taking my phone back. I'm pissed but I understand and decide to try. I manage to work my ass off but it's still not enough.
My dad feels guilty and my grandfather feels terrible about it so my grandfather gives me a loan of $305 (what I owe P) so that I can pay him.
Fast forward again to yesterday. I tell P that I have his money, $305, and he's not taking my phone.
Suddenly P is all giddy and happy. He texts me this exactly:
"Yay! if u want I"ll take it earlier :D tbh i wasn't actually gonna take ur nexus;) it was just an excuse to try to get the money quicker haha. so whens the earliest you can get it to me?"
I'm pissed. I tell him I can't get it to him earlier because I'm getting the cheque and cashing it on the 26th. Then he texts me this.
"the htc isn't broken either ;) i needed the money so I tried to get everything i could get together and get the money lol"
So his phone isn't wrecked after all. But he still has to go to atlanta, so... wait...
"Are you even going to Atlanta?"
"nope ;) all a ruse. im clever right?"
This is the moment where I delete his text messages, delete his phone number and delete all of his contact information, privacy block him on Facebook and punch a wall as hard as I can, putting a hole through my bedroom wall.
I'm so pissed. I'm not loving paying him. Not if he's going to manipulate me, and my family and make everyone feel stuffty about something.
That's my rant. Discuss or whatever.
tl;dr I bought a phone off a guy I thought I trusted, I bought it for $120 and he said i could pay the rest off in august, then last thursday he says he needs the money because he's leaving and his phone broke so he needs to pay for a new phone, and then when i pull many emotional strings to get the money it turns out he lied about everything and just wants the money because he doesn't like the phone he has. /rage.
