I never tried lucid dreams because I'm terrified of sleep paralysis
Then try lucid dreaming at day time, on the odd chance you do have a sleep paralysis semi-wake up thing, it'll be a hell of a lot less scary because all the lights are on and such.
I hate the way my brain works. Basically every night my dreams are very realistic, I can feel everything (hue love), taste, smell, hear, etc., most of the time my dreams are in first person view, but I don't know I'm dreaming.
Like, I get to the part of lucid dreaming where you get to interact with everything and change the course of dreams, but I don't know I'm dreaming, so I just act as I would normally.
Example: A few nights ago I had a dream that I was at Disneyland and I was testing this scary ride thing that they were still building and I gave the workers my feedback and such, then I left to go find my mom and sisters to see what they were up to. Now if I had full control I would have morphed the ride into something awesome or had endless love, but I didn't know I was dreaming, so I acted normal.
Don't get me wrong, it's extremely fun when my dream goes bad and stuff starts to go down, like something is chasing me, because I actually think I'm going to die, so I go into survival kickass mode where I have to save myself.
Also I don't notice dream stuff, like if a cat is floating I'll just be like "cool" as if it were normal and only realize how weird it was after I wake up and realize it was a dream.
Weird.
PRO TIP: It's all in your head. You are the master of everything. All that stuff that says "Don't look in mirrors in your dream or else you'll see something really scary!" People only see scary stuff in mirrors because they THINK they're going to due to the richards on the internet. I've looked in mirrors plenty of times in dreams and nothing happened. If you
are lucid dreaming and some scary stuff happens, you're the god of that realm. If you will the scary stuff to go away, it will.
