Computer programs are drawn-out processes. If you're looking at a company which is known for one massive program, you can expect to be working on that and that only for your first couple years. If you work at an indie game developer that makes nice little simple games, then you'll likely have more variance in your work.

They make quite a bit actually. I'm not sure the exact number, but it's no small pay.

This doesn't seem that much when you have to think about copious amounts of stress and liver poisoning

From what I hear, it can be very difficult to get into the field as there are a huge number of people who want to do it, but only so many jobs.
