Author Topic: Greed - A Short Blockland Film  (Read 2095 times)

Cucumber! is by far my favorite Blockland video producer. I feel I connect to him better than other video producers because his style is also very much focused on story and serious themes, and he doesn't overdo anything (so many Blockland film makers are guilty of tacky overproduced video FX and bad music choices for example).

This film was interesting. I appreciated the camera angles and the scenes were deep and well linked. It successfully created an engaging atmosphere and managed to feel eerie, successfully masking the realization you were watching Blockhead figures which is important.

Its focus on using visuals and sound effects to tell the story was brilliant. The letterbox was a bit heavy for my taste, probably could loosen that a bit. But at any rate using a letterbox helped create a tense trapped feeling that compliments the shots.

8/10

This was really bad. Although filmed with 1080p, assuming you used an actual 1920x1080 res, you letterboxed it down to a tiny strip. I didn't understand what was going on throughout the entire thing, and it was just a bunch of random cuts between different scenes.

That really means a lot to me coming from one of the BL Filmers who inspired me! Thanks for the feedback :D

Well I understand if you had no idea what was going on. I didn't completely add a full story (or I gave a very vague one) to it or a full buildup, I basically gave YOU the guidelines and the rest was up to your imagination to make the image more vivid. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it ;3

I did like the camerawork & effects though.

I agree, I love the more serious genre of videos. I'd make serious videos, but I always have a fear that people will think it's just a sad and embarrassing attempt to look cool or something silly like that.. That and it's hard for me to make videos that are actually that good since I just have an extreme lack of resources. That's why I'm excited to hopefully join cineblock- the film-making clan, because maybe then I can help make some good videos for once.

You should ignore comments like that, constructive criticism is all that should be considered. Don't let your ideas get squandered by halfwits who post things like that, if it ever happens.

Couldn't watch it, Chrome or YouTube was loving up.

ONTOPIC: But it looks good to watch.

nice effects, i did not get the story.

I loved the sound in this story. It almost make me think there was going to be a jump scare :c

Like Sheath said, don't be embarrassed to try and make something in the serious genre. I admit it is a tad more difficult than a comedy video but if you're content with it then don't be afraid to release it to the world. As for the lack of resources, that part is very difficult to get through; I would be willing to help with that :D

Once again thank you all for your opinions and I'm glad many of you enjoyed it!

Really nice, but I didn't get the story.

Thanks, once I get back from a relatives house maybe I'll try giving one of those kind of videos a shot. I have an idea for one in mind already.

Really? Thanks! Lord knows I need the help, I've been working with wmm and the free fraps for quite a while. Even if it's just for one video or so, I'd really appreciate it.

Was I the only one that actually followed most of the story? Great video BTW, the music is one of the best parts.

Thanks! Audio was actually more difficult in some parts editing this than video was xP
