Author Topic: Making a Blockland app [Added some pretty pictures]  (Read 7677 times)

Hi guys,
I am starting on a new project and wanted to ask, and inform you on a few things.
I am starting an iPhone app (I believe it will eventually be compatible with android).  But for now an iPhone app.

Quick Info
The app is going to be called Blockland Explorer.  Mainly it is just in info-app that easily shows everything and anything having to do with Blockland.  The app will be free in the app store, and does not have a designated release / finish date.

Suggestions
I have started building the app but would like some input from the community.  I need an idea of how to organize things.  My first idea was to have a total of 9 sections. (History, bricks, events, RTB, emitters, lights, music, starting a server, servers)

Each section would be very well informative, and informational.  They would also (for certain sections) contain sub-sections, which contained more in-depth information.

Anyway, that is my idea on how it is going to be laid out.  Please post what you guys think I should add, organize, explain, etc.

Things that will NOT be added
1) List of players and BL_IDs
2) A register system
3) in-depth torque lessons (There will possibly be a section with links to torque script tutorials).

Enjoy

Change-Log
<August 5> Op created
<August 10> Rush0814 Joins development
<August 11> preview video released (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjhMdPthKO0)
<August 12> Evar678 is first Beta Tester
<August 12> Pacnet2012² and CheeseDragon accepted as beta testers
<August 13> Project on hold for a week, due to vacation.
<August 30> Project development has changed from the original Gamesalad to Xcode
<September 20> Lots of work getting done!
UPDATE

Because of gamesalad, not being so in-depth with these types of applications (informational) and being more suitable for gaming applications, I have decided to switch over the development to Xcode.  With Xcode, I will have TONS of new options, I will hopefully be able to even add an eventing section, where you can input events (default) and save them for later use!  This is a big change, but 100% worthwhile.  I am excited for what is to come (also, I have developed with Xcode before and do have experience).

Beta Testing

Beta testing will take place when the app is completed, all testers will be notified.

Application
1) Have you tested anything before? If so what?
2) What device(s) do you have? (ex: iPhone, iPod, kindle, droid, iPad)

--current beta testers--
Evar678
Pacnet2012²
CheeseDragon

What you should look for as a beta tester
This is a small guide for what you should search for if you have been accepted as a beta tester.
  • Lines on sides of page (see here http://i.imgur.com/1N7a9.png)
  • Random crashes
  • Make sure to tap in random areas to ensure there aren't any stray links/scene changes.
  • When reporting a bug please list your device, and description on what happened/where.

  • Beta testing will happen when the app is released.  All testers will be PM'd
  • Failing to respond the PM (without a good reason) within a week, will result in being taken off testing

Checking out how it looks on actual device! (below)

How it looks on-screen (below)

This topic does go down periodically at times.  Just because it is not on the front page doesn't mean that I have not stopped development.  I am sorry that this is taking a while.  I have confirmed that the application will be free.  I cannot set a date when this will be finished, as I still have quite a bit more to do.  Although, I believe that I may be able to add some more interactive aspects to this.  Maybe even an event system or something of that sorts.

Like the minecraft explorer?

Good idea but it's I doubt they'd take an app from some random kid.

Meh, its free.  I don't see why they wouldn't.  Any suggestions?

If you want to add torquescript lessons, you'd have to put in very basic like starting at variables.
Try to make it very explanitory yet understandable for all learning types.

Yeah I'd probably just add a very detailed explanation about the engine. And probably just provide links to one of the tutorial topics on the forums

A more convenient way to browse the forums would be nice.

Finally, someone is making an app related to blockland.  I've suggested this a few times, though not what you are doing.

My first idea was to have a total of 9 sections. (History, bricks, events, RTB, emitters, lights, music, starting a server, servers)

Not the most divided categorization.

Try this.  Subs are indicated with different bullets.

I didn't realize how long I had made it, but once it started flowing, I just couldn't stop.

need some help? PM me, i do have experience. And btw they do accept apps from ANYONE..

oh yes do want 10/10
Make it compatible with iPods as well please
also I agree with a better way for browsing the forums, or hit post twice on accident on my technological thingy bobber

mebe random epiltaps/badspot/rotondo/wedge and etc quotes randomly on the bottom of each page?

I have a friend that is making a app already. Still under development. For iOS Products. RC, Kick, Ban, Talk, blah blah. Basicly a server manager...Mobile. I think its going to be free or 99¢ not sure.

I'm making some forum browser app for Android.
As well as a remote services app for my hosting service.
Too bad, no iOS
