Author Topic: someone teach me how to draw clouds correctly.  (Read 1110 times)

i suck immensely at drawing clouds
someone teach me the basics of drawing a basic cloud that doesn't look like the cloud you'd see in a little children's book. and by that sort of cloud i mean this:

That cloud looks like it has a REALLY evil face on.

>see picture
>never look at clouds ever again

It does have a face on it.

I have that book. Eric Carle is one of my favorite Author/Artists

make it poofy but like a oval at the same time

This is how i draw clouds:

1. draw a round M

2. draw an upside-down M in a different spot

3. draw smaller Ms on the sides

4. connect them with round lines, but not at the tip

5. bam instant cloud

I spent my entire loving lifetime drawing that cloud, so better loving appreciate it, kiddo. I even drew you falling off the damn sky to your loving death.

1. draw a round M
2. draw an upside-down M in a different spot
3. draw smaller Ms on the sides
4. connect them with round lines, but not at the tip
5. bam instant cloud

oh wow, that's genious

thanks!

Also it works with pixels too

1. Take free select/lasso tool
2. Adjust feather to whatever you want (experiment)
3. Draw a wiggly cloud shape
4. Render clouds

Just look at pictures of real clouds, DONT USE BLUR! Draw loosely, if you know what that means, if not, it means just draw without giving a forget about where the brush goes. If you look at clouds really good artists draw, they rarely blur the stuff together, they slightly blend with the brush density settings a little low. When blending, I like using the darker color and the lighter color to make it look how i like. If im not making any sense, sorry.

just slap a bunch of colors around, clouds dont always look round in real life, make the bottoms a little flat.
try to not use white, use a blue-white color, and change the hue a little when doing shade, like a light blue cloud, shade it with a blue with a hint of purple

tl;dr just experiment

thanks ike, your tutorial is really amazing actually.
i'd also love to draw clouds like these
