Author Topic: Gonna build a computer for my birthday, any suggestions?  (Read 2465 times)

So lately there's been a spree of good games i've had an urge to play, and after buying them... the fps was typically under 6.

I've grown a tolerance for lower FPS, so i'm not demanding a super-ultra-mega-godly computer, just something that can get me atleast 20 FPS on games like Garry's mod, TF2, HL2:E2, Blockland (with a large save loaded), Cortex command, Minecraft, Overgrowth, GTA IV, etcetera

RAM: $38.50

OS: $100

PSU: $100

GPU: $125

Motherboard: $60

CPU: 110$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

Case: $40

HDD: $75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769

CD/DVD reader: $19
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118031

So, any problems with the compatibility of these items/other sites to buy them for better prices but same quality?

also, how good of a gaming computer would this be?

P.S. there's no more P.S.

listen to darkness

windows XP 64bit patch > windows 7 64bit

I don't think you'd want 20 FPS on TF2

windows XP 64bit patch > windows 7 64bit
You're loving handicapped if you think this.

less RAM/CPU usage
stop mixing up vista with 7 boy

You're loving handicapped if you think this.

you're loving handicapped if you think that because windows 7 is newer that it's better

push comes to shove, you want that extra 512MB or 1GB of RAM that windows 7 uses with no background programs running when you're running higher-end programs or games

if you want to have flashy buttons then fine, whatever

don't use Windows XP, it wont have support for much longer

GPU: get a amd radeon 6850 for a bit more.

psu: i think that's a little overkill but if you're going to upgrade the forget out of this build then ok.

motherboard and CPU:

costs a bit more money but this is far better then the other CPU.

HDD: if you're going to get plenty more games then i'd recommend a 1TB, otherwise yours is good.

CD/DVD reader: doesn't the PSU give you one as a gift?

hey look im actually helpful.

At least Windows 7 can run ALL games if you have the right hardware.
Windows XP is slowly loosing compatibility, and soon will be obsolete.
