Another scouting party is sent by boat to travel to Notomi, instead arriving at Avalonia.  They attempt to communicate, using their four different languages.

Erinamese Explorers locate an Avalonian outpost.  An effort is being made by the men to try to learn Igrom, and to teach the Avalonian men Erinamese.

The Avalonian people are not eager to make enemies, and make great eforts to teakch Igrom to the foriegners and to learn their own languages. Efforts have met with limited success due to a fundamental difference between Igrom and the languages taught by the foriegners (Igrom in written form is phonetic, as opposed to English or Chinese, which I assume to be the closest language to Erinamese which I can speak of with any knowledge. Igrom in its spoken form is at this point a dialect with Erinamese roots, but with influence from other languages picked up from local tribes.).

Angband's wall has been completed. It's made fully of stone, and has a second curtain wall surrounded by a moat about half a mile away. Clan McPhail was given payment for services rendered in silver from a mine recently discovered.

I'll get around to changing Alani in just a bit.

I've done some thinking on the whole all enclosing wall mentality, and I think that I will allow it to some small extent. Up until the invention of gunpowder, large walls, if well manned can be able to fend off (in theory, it may not work out that way in practice) a direct assault. However, you can't fully hold a line that's as long as your borders, likewise, an invading army can't attack the entirety of the wall in full strength. They can still slip people past you if they do something like divert your main force with the main force, allowing a few to sneak in on an unmanned area. You can send people out in a similar way under simila circumstances. Any complaints, have at, I'll be reasonable.

Erinamese is entirely phonetic.  It sounds like a cross between Arabic, Russian and Chinese.

I'm good with this.

Then the Erinamese have the edge of similar languages and the Avalonians learn Erinamese a more rapidly than the other languages.

The Alanians attempt to teach the Avalonians of their language, Alanian, as well as Russian.

The Erinamese travelers give the Avalonian men Åkkèłé.  Drink heartily.

The Avalonians enjoy a good bit of the Åkkèłé, and give the Erinamese a bottle of strong ginger brandy.

The Erinamese men greatly appreciate the gift and drink heartily.  A good message is sent back to the Emperor by a carrier pigeon.

On one night of partying and enjoying each other's company, a bottle of Åkkèłé falls into the fire unnoticed.  A bear tries to raid the camp, and as the men flee, the bottle explodes in a fiery blast.  The bear dies of shrapnel from the bottle and from burns from the Åkkèłé.  The men, upon hearing the blast and seeing the enormous flash of light, turn around and count their supplies and find that one bottle of Åkkèłé missing, and the remaining shards of the bottle in the bear's hide.  No one was harmed but the bear.

You ignore Alanians when they try to communicate with you, Avalonia.

This make Alani saaaaad.
