Author Topic: [ARES app, but WIP] Salvager Shuttle - 615 bricks!  (Read 2051 times)

Attempting to make the ship look a lot less "cubular"

I'd say nay.
It's not like it's bad or something, there's just a little too much room for improvement.
For starters, the protruding airlock you hate so much seems to protrude for no good reason :|

Is this better?

It's definitely a big improvement and you really succeeded on breaking off the cubularism on the sides in a simple way, but I'll wait for Comr4de to rejudge it's menacing ass and the roof. The front, sides and bottom are pretty much perfect now though. No need to add more detail to avoid cramming it up.
Also good job on sinking the miniguns in one brick, adds a nice mechanical feeling.

Thank you much! The roof isn't even started yet and I want to have comr4de tell me what he thinks would be an improvement before I go off and screw up more stuff.

Anyways here's two more pictures

The siding is 65% done

edit: Hahaha, it seems the more I work on it, the smaller the brickcount is. I've managed to shave off 219 bricks and make it look better in the outcome.

I don't even see how you managed strip off 300 extra bricks while keeping the ship in the same shape.
Did you change the interior?

Nope! I just used a more efficient wall style.

better, but don't forget you got three dimensions to work in
could be a tad skinnier up top

"Skinnier"?

Rear looks ugly. The rest of the ship looks pretty good.

Since its a salvaging shuttle, I would expect that it had something to help it grab on to debris, and haul it back to something that could sift through it, or at least already have some way to find salvageable items and put them into a cargo bay or container.

I'm going to be working on the rear a lot, and thanks for the compliment! :D

Also I didn't think of something like that. Maybe a magnet crane on top?

Or you can go forgetall and say it's invisible tractor beams.
But a crane is bricks and bricks can be judged.
Also, Ragna, I prefer the current look really. It's a lot spacier-looking and there's no need for aerodynamic shaping when there's no areo.

I used to say stuff like that, but then I realized that sometimes people land ships on planets. Although, with ships this futuristic one could say that they are manufactured in space and use small jump ships to go down to planets, but if you wish to go at extremely quick rates of speed then those small particles will add up and aerodynamics will help.

Generally large fleets would have specialized low-orbital ships that are more up par for fighting in low-orbital conditions instead of some hybrid form.

I agree with the comments before me.  This is a good ship for your first, so of course there is going to be room for improvement.

My advice would be to:
     -  Build the airlock gradually into the ship
     -  Have a larger and grander engine design
     -  Put a loving crane on that mutha effin ship, without it looking random of course.

uh
maybe you should update the OP with new pics with the less crappy version of your ship

as for the ship, you did wonderfully on it
