Not a very high random crit rate like the sniper or medic so it's not worth it to use it.

all melee weapons have the exact same crit rate

I find that the machette and saw have a lot higher crit rate but that may be just me.
I also thought you were talking about the escape plan and not the shovel.

crit rate raises as you do more damage in the last 20 seconds before attacking, so maybe you just do more damage as medic and sniper in that time frame for some reason
