Everyone with proof of purchase should have gotten a silver badge, everyone who joined after a year of the f2p update should have gotten a bronze and that's it.

Quite frankly I would have been totally cool with them making the cutoffs exactly the same but stopping the Bronze distribution a week after the 119th Update so it was actually "3rd place" rather than some kind of participation medal

Then I might actually feel proud to wear it instead of letting it collect dust in my backpack for all eternity

I have the POP but my badge is bronze. Sometimes the game will glitch and when I'm playing I'll have a grizzled veteran badge or silver badge. /shrug

when i find a good team, i actually WANT other people to find hats
