(To disable MOTDs completely)
3. Go to your \tf\ directory and create a read only file called:

textwindow_temp.html(You can make it read only by right clicking the file, selecting Properties, then ticking the box for read only)

The "You can close this ad in X seconds" text will be on the screen, but you wont actually have to wait.

Your hosts file should be in 'Windows\System32\drivers\etc' You can open it with any text editor.

Your autoexec.cfg should be in 'Steam\SteamApps\<you>\team fortress 2\tf\cfg'. If it's not there, just make it yourself.
