Some are just stupid and take unnecessary amounts of time.

And oh my god, how come no matter what bloody year of my education I am in, I can't escape from loving teachers giving me homework to make a loving poster.

16 years old, in college, studying A-Levels, and my teacher asks me to make a loving poster on anti-cancer drugs.
Why not ask me to do something productive, like actually researching it. Putting it in an essay or something.
Just because you need to decorate your loving classroom. Like I was going to waste the time it took to do that, when I could do actual revision and exam-prep.

If my teacher wants me to learn some more at home, I'd rather just be told to go off and read a text book or some articles. Atleast I'll do that.

I'm only going into tenth grade, and I know that homework, especially math, doesn't just take a couple of minutes

Yes. It takes a couple minutes for them to do their homework. Technically, they did it. They just cheated. I thought you would have picked up on that when I said a couple of minutes, and the next class.

If it was a short homework, or something that can very be quickly copied over (like maths), then the few people who were either pre-occupied (read:lazy) or forgot, would occassionally ask.
Most people did their work.

And in College (Which I think is equal to your High School?), there was never any copying unless it was a really simple homework forgotten.
Because usually, if you couldn't do the homework, then you probably needed help from the teacher. And if you don't make the time to do most homeworks, you're not gonna do brilliantly.
It was never a case of someone doing homework and then others copying, but more, someone does the homework, and others come along and go through it with them, or everyone does their homework together.

Is High School compulsary for you? Since it equals College for me, which is entirely optional.
And usually, if you don't do the homework because it's too difficult, then you're not smart enough to still be studying that subject.

high school is mandatory in the united states until you're 16 (or 17, I think it varies between states)

If you were normal you would tell them to forget off, and they would forget off.

If you're smart, and are in a basic class (me!), you're going to get horded for copiers (mainly people you sit with). You said you're 16 and in college. So you most likely had upper-classes. People in upper-classes generally tend to care about their education.

Not sure what college has to do with this? I myself do my homework as it should be done (95% of the time). High School is required for everyone under the age of 16. After 16, it is the parents jurisdiction until they turn 18.

So, doing your homework makes you a nerd that is desperate for attention? People copy from people who copy, or copy from people who do their homework. It makes no difference. Because at times, I'll have to copy theirs. And telling people to forget off in High School isn't going to work well.
