The Taurus was very restricted. It seemed very heavy. It's tires were screaming, and it was slow to maneuver. The Crown was very flexible, and fast. It didn't skip a beat. It's a pretty substantial victory.
The Taurus seemed restricted because it actually had traction, the P71 was basically sliding around. Using the video time as a rough timer (timing from when the car crosses the first cones to when it crosses the white double line) the P71 clocked about 13 seconds and 15 seconds. The Taurus ran about 14 seconds and 12 seconds. So really they pretty much performed the same. This was just a demonstration video anyways, hardly an accurate performance test.
Yeah the Taurus defiantly isn't as tough the Crown Victoria and it might not have as good as an engine (I believe the Taurus has more power but less low-end torque), but if there is one area where it could beat the Crown Victoria it's handling. Well the FWD version Taurus probably totally lacks the maneuverability and could easily be beat by the Crown Victoria.
Ford knows what there doing when they make a police vehicle, I think they just choose the wrong platform for their new interceptor.
