Uh, what about when you can kill the piece that is checking the king? You should be able to move any piece, as long as it gets the king out of check.

Also this is awesome, I am a fan of chess myself.

No you're not. If you can eliminate the checking piece with one of yours or move a piece in between the king and the checking piece the check is broken.

You can also just put a piece in front of the line of the check.
