Author Topic: desktop.ini everywhere in my user folder?  (Read 798 times)

I recently noticed that the file desktop.ini seems to be everywhere in my C:\Users\Michael Folder.

Places I've found it:
C:\Users\Michael\Downloads
C:\Users\Michael\Desktop
C:\Users\Michael\Links
C:\Users\Michael\My Documents
C:\Users\Michael\Searches
C:\Users\Michael\Favorites
C:\Users\Michael\My Pictures
C:\Users\Michael\My Music
C:\Users\Michael\Contacts
C:\Users\Michael\My Videos
C:\Users\Michael\My Music\Playlists
C:\Users\Michael\Slide Shows
C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\Public
C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\Photos
C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox
C:\Users\Michael\Favorites\Favorites Bar
C:\Users\Michael\Favorites\Websites for United States

Why are there so many, and is it safe to delete them? When I try to delete any of them, it says that some component of windows may not work if I do; and it doesn't specify what component.

I think those files are supposed to be hidden. Better not delete them, might screw up your desktop.

i delete mine all the time, not sure what it does but nothing is significantly affected so you should be fine.

I had them too. I just went ahead and deleted them.
