Author Topic: Is this a good computer?  (Read 679 times)

Right, so my friend will be buying a new computer soon and they've offered me theirs for a price between $400 and $500.

Now, I'm not too tech savvy and computer specs confuse me... So, Blockland forums, could you help me out? I asked for the computer specs and this is what I got:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+

CPU Speed - 3.2 GHz

Ram - 4.1 GB

Graphics Card - GeForce 9600 GT

500 Gigabyte Harddrive

For about $500, is this worth the buy?

go for intel processing and more ram if you have an extra $200

In time I could probably upgrade, and I think I have some RAM cards around here somewhere haha

But trust me, this is better than my current computer by a longshot. I mean, seriously.

I really think I need an upgrade, aha

I - or maybe even someone else could put together a different build for you. If you really don't want to put it together or have someone help you, someone could suggest a pre-built.

If you want to build one, I'm going to assume you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, OS and stuff to go along with the tower, right? If I remember correctly you're using a laptop too so you don't have most of that stuff since it's all packed together in one little machine.

I've already got a 1440*900 moniter, a mouse and a keybord. I'm only paying for the tower (:

So would you rather get a better performing pre-built for the same amount of cash than your friend is offering you - or would you like to cut down a bit and build one yourself?

I'm trying to haggle it down, there's a chance I could get it for around $250-300.

Looks good, im good with the imac i want

Honestly I wouldn't pay more than $250 for that. I wouldn't pay for it at all, it's outdated.

For $500 you can build something way better. That GPU is weak.

This sentence makes it sound like you're getting a used computer.
If true, forget no. If false, still forget no.

I change my mind, maybe $200 max for this computer.

Well, unless I can convince them to let me take it for $200-250,
I won't buy it.

Aha, thanks guys (:
