Author Topic: Yet Another Space Shooter Game  (Read 1327 times)

Vector graphics, made in Visual Basic Express 2012 RC. With a crappy graphics engine! Click the image to download.

Additional help: Don't let the heat bar fill. You'll lose nearly half of your health AND be unable to fire for a little while! Health display is the ring around your ship. The line indicates level, starting and ending at the right. It rotates counterclockwise, and changes color.

KNOWN BUGS:
>Flickering on most elements if they overlap
I can't do much about this right now, this is because I'm de-rendering everything instead of just clearing it all to avoid flickering. I'll have to mess with the order things render in.
>Executable files are the bane of all existence
...What?

Next update planned:
>Less flickering
>More sounds (hopefully without an installer)
>Different ship types or a boss
>Colorblind-friendly mode
>Installer instead of apparently hyper-suspicious exe

Fun fact: this includes precisely 504 lines of code, with one user-defined class, twenty functions and subs, and five forms objects.

post a virus scan so you hopefully don't get banned for posting an exe

It isn't a virus. Stop posting.

It isn't a virus. Stop posting.

...He didn't say it was a virus, he said OP should post a virus scan so people consider downloading it, and so that he doesn't get banned for posting and .exe
What the hell is wrong with you.

It isn't a virus. Stop posting.
You may not give out EXEs.

Pretty sure that isn't a rule, or isn't valid any more because tons have been posted with direct download links and the only guy who I've ever seen been banned for posting is some guy in the add-ons section who posted some garbage exe.

Will results in the topic being removed, not you banned

better safe than sorry
it's generally considered the professional thing to do anyway

So what do you want me to do, post the source code and have everyone steal it?

If it was a virus it would also be against Dropbox policy.

Perhaps stuff the thing in a .zip file with a txt file that bears instructions.

That would be all workaround-y and even more suspicious.

I should probably publish it or something.

Jesus christ.
Op, just put it on mediafire instead of direct download.
Edit: I played it. Nothing bad happened, but even then the game barely worked. No enemies, just me flying around and shooting.

Aye, graphics of a game doesn't matter most of the time, it just matters on how much players like the game.
