Author Topic: How can I remotely shut off a computer?  (Read 1514 times)

I had a computer in my house that I had something downloading on. Thing is, it is slowing down the internet, and I can't get out to the computer as I might wake up my parents. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition. How can I shut it down from my computer?

open cmd.exe and run shutdown -i and enter the computers name, if that doesn't work I don't really know

Throw a brick at it from the hallway.

I'm getting an "Access Denied" error.

Don't I have to install that on the computer I want to view before hand?

If you can get access to your houses fuse box, smash it with a hammer - that should take it out.

I'm getting an "Access Denied" error.

make sure you run cmd as administrator.

1. This doesnt work for non workgroup computers, and also the input computer must be a workgroup admin.

2. Yes.

make sure you run cmd as administrator.

Now i gotta go get the MGS games off ebay

Along with a ps1,

Well, I don't have to shut it down if I can either:

1. Disconnect it from the internet.
2. Close it's torrent programs (BitComet and Miro)

It's connected to my router (Actiontec v1000h) via Ethernet

If you have your router login info you can log into it and block its mac adress from the network
