Steam wont work

Can someone help me whenever i try to open a game on steam it says "Please exit any running games or tools before attempting to verify your game cache"

well i tried it without steam open and i tried it well having everything closed

Try exiting Steam instead of just closing Steam windows. Wait a few minutes, then open Steam back up.

what do you mean by exiting it and not closing the window

click the little steam icon on your taskbar and then click exit

just ctrl+alt+del and close all things that you dont need open and then try again

Try Ctrl-Alt-Delete, then go to processes. You might see the game running there. I dunno what it would be named, but if you see it, click it and then hit "End process"
