Author Topic: What happened to blockland?  (Read 1349 times)

Today I redownloaded Blockland and ReturnToBlockland. I noticed that most of the stuff is updated and looks nice but it's just not the same. And now RTB is started by pressing two buttons instead of at the main menu. Also I noticed that there aren't as many servers/players or that many "fun" servers. There use to be like death races, tf2 games, mazes, challenge levels, and now there isn't much but RP's. I last played like 2 years ago but I'm starting to play more now.  I just don't think the newer blockland is as good as the older versions. :/

Feel free to discuss if you liked blockland when it was older or newer(now) or just other versions.

V21+the advent of professional hosting servers snuffing out smaller 'fun' servers.

The people that hosted those fun servers grew up into people that host professional servers.

We gotta wait for the next generation of good servers

The people who hosted fun servers couldn't afford 24/7 pro hosting for the most part, which killed off much of their players. players much rather play on a mediocre 24/7 server with 30 gigs hosted by kalph's nasa super computer than a server by a 13 year old on the family computer. That and loving grabble DMs, the lowest form of DM.

Over the last two years, despite growth in the community, the count players online and servers being hosted has dropped. It's quite disappointing considering how larger the community has become.

Consider this weekend:
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=1034 (530 players / 205s)
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=1035 (539 players / 185s)
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=1036 (592 players / 218s)
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=1037 (537 players / 181s)

and 2 years ago:
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=306 (752 players / 283s)
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=307 (769 players / 297s)
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=308 (805 players / 292s + 4th highest player count ever)
http://blocklandcloud.com/tools/monitor.php?action=day&day=309 (803 players / 279s, on a Monday?)
(3rd place for player count is held by the previous weekend)

Keep in mind all the idiot forum-goers that only come here for the off-topic section.

i think what happend is alot of people had servers that were not compatible with v21 and they need to update them and such

Does block land advertise? I haven't seen a blockland advertisement ever. I mean the only way I can think of someone finding it is if a friend tells them about it.

It does. I see a Blockland ad on Youtube and other sites occasionally.

You could always make your own server with these old games. I know I would join

Well let me know when youre hosting! Ill totally join!

People have gotten lazy and uncreative and only host TDMs and Falling platform clones. Any RP you join is generally an empty slate with nothing happening. These are dark times.

if king leo came on more blockatraz would be hosted
