Author Topic: My great uncle fought on Iwo Jima  (Read 808 times)

So I was talking to my friend about old WW2 places and then he brought up Iwo Jima, and I remember talking to my dad about my grandpa's uncle (Uncle Bud). I already knew he was at Iwo Jima, but I ask "Did he actually fight on Iwo Jima, and my dad said yes. He shot the japs in the trenches holding up american reinforcements. Uncle Bud told my dad that the japs were tough fighters. And I don't blame them either. Uncle bud was at the bottom of the hill when they raised the flag over Iwo Jima, too bad. The Japaneese (modern day ones) had to turn the goddamn horror filled island into a tourist attraction. If you look on google maps you can just barely see the old airfield that was there before they built a new one.

I also have 2 ww2 jackets, and I think one of them (or both) belonged to my uncle. They have my last name patched on, too.

EDIT: My dad interviewed him a long time ago and he never told him what gun he used, or how much confirmed kills he got. (I wouldn't either)

This is no stuff to joke around with.

That's pretty neat, my uncle was in the medical corps during Vietnam, but he was stationed on a hospital ship so he didn't see any action. I still have his Vietnam gas mask.

And then the jews got captured and then the town was bombed and everybody died.

If the Netherlands was a town, then sure!
