Author Topic: Cool Discovery I found about Pokemon Games!  (Read 2689 times)

This is about the music.

Ever wondered why'd it sounds, well like it sounds?

That's because the game doesn't contain real sound files!

The game runs with MIDI files!

Pretty cool, huh? I was able to rip off some music files from a Pokemon Black ROM.

I have all the Pokemon Gold and Silver music.

Favorite game soundtrack <3

most modern music today uses MIDI files instead of real sound files..

Well, I don't know if that applies to video games.

Well, see MIDIs themselves aren't sound. They're a set of instructions. So you have a SoundFont (.sf2) or DownLoadableSound (DLS), which are files that have samples of sounds. So, then you can use a MIDI sequencer to play the MIDI with the SoundFont or DownloadableSound. It's like sheet music. It's a set of instructions for a human to play.

If I'm correct, isn't Pokemon Black fairly new - and not abandon-ware or anything - but you have a ROM? Isn't this pirating?

It's not if he ripped the game himself. Which he probably didn't. :/

Not if it's for personal use and you only get a couple. I don't plan to play it because most DS emulators aren't able to play it, like mine: DeSmuME.

I ripped the music from the rom with a command line program called ndssndext.

I'm almost positive the law states you can have one digital copy if you rip it yourself. It's piracy to download someone else's digital copy.

Well, yeah it's for my personal use.

That's still piracy bro
Come on, it's a couple of MIDI files from a single game that my sole purpose is to play them with my computer, ;-;.

Yeah, but it's still piracy for some reason. I don't understand the law, either. I just abide by it.

So rip the game yourself?
