Quote
...They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood. Others will follow and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts. For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.

He died exactly 6 months from the death of Edd Gould.

odd.

I was watching a Discovery channel show about the moon landing two days a go and I wondered when the guy would die.

Didn't expect it to be this year. Though then again, he was in his 80's and his ticker wasn't great.

Sad to see such a historically significant person pass away. He's been immortalized forever though.

my clan, Invalid Gaming, hosted a memorial ceremony yesterday on our Moonbase Alpha server. Everybody in attendance showed their respects to the man who made practically everything seem possible.

It is my belief that nobody's passing should be mourned. It is a poor choice of words. I respect Neil Armstrong as much in death as I respected him alive. He helped change the world, and that is all somebody could wish to do in their lifetime.  It's like being sad because your faithful old dog, who you've been friends with for most of your life, dies. You have no choice but to miss them, but you know that they had lived a good life, and one can only do so much in their lifetime. I, personally, believe that if one dies before they have the chance to live to their potential, that is a truly sad event. This may seem a bleak, cynical world view, but in the end, you only have to live up to one person's hopes and expectations: yourself.

So here's to a man who lived a hero and died a legend. Somebody we could look up to, not just as an icon of progress, but a sincerely good person.
