Author Topic: What kind of stuff should be in a medical kit?  (Read 1791 times)

So stopping the blood from draining out of your body and helping speed the healing process to avoid infection is bad?
Yes, it kills whatever you burn, obviously. In addition, "Cautery was historically believed to prevent infection, but current research shows that cautery actually increases the risk for infection by causing more tissue damage and providing a more hospitable environment for bacterial growth."

Who the forget have you been talking to?
I've heard from doctors and stuff that cauterizing is good.

I'm sorry i'm still confused

"Electric Cautery Lowers the Contamination Threshold for Infection of Laparotomies"
I don't do it electrically, I do it by burning it 100% shut, not to mention how the hot blade I use to apply the head takes and kills off any bacterial therefor making it sterile.

In all honesty:
  • Gauze roll
  • Duct tape
  • Band-aids (multiple sizes
  • Scissors (only if it's in a hard box)
  • Pocket knife
  • A small container of hydrogen peroxide
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Ibuprofen

These are all incredibly helpful. The duct tape one wasn't a joke, that stuff literally fixes everything. If you've cut your arm open and your gauze won't hold tight duct tape that stuff on. Not to mention it's just great to have on you for whenever you may need it.

Um, using a hot blade is even less safe. That's why we typically use electrical, when necessary.

Duct tape was first made for NASCAR.
The more you know.

Explain to me why.

You won't be able to burn yourself with that amount of heat for more than 1/4 of a second, it's much better just to apply pressure with a bandage until you get to a better place.

Cauterization kills the flesh that you cauterize, which can cause it to start to decay, and greatly increases risk of infection. Just use a bandage or something.

I have good pain tolerance.

I have personal experience to say false.

Anecdotal evidence < empirical data.

You don't have to be a redneck to use ducttape for everything. It's a very useful thing to have around.

The day my flesh falls off is the day I'll believe you on that.

This is true, but its mostly for Rednecks.
Gotta monday rig that stuff!

He didn't say anything about pain, he is saying that it wouldn't be hot enough to work properly.

It really isn't, you are just trying to make everything about you being a hillbilly again.
