The Trap Door

There has been a robbery at a local café. You and your friend Detective Derek are investigating the crime scene. Chief Investigator Mike has just ordered you and Derek to look behind the counter for clues. Derek stumbles upon a trap door. "Should we go under?" you ask. "Probably leads to the basement. We could check for clues there," Derek replies. He opens the trap door, and there is a ladder in a small underground space. You two climb down, and there is a grate at the bottom of the stairs. You open it and land on top of a college's roof after 5 seconds of falling down. The sky is gray and it starts to rain. "Where the hell are we?" Derek asks. "Nevermind that, we need to get out of the rain!" you exclaim.
You could climb down the ladder and take the back door into the college campus or there is a rundown motel to the left.
Where to go to get out of the rain?

You suggest to Derek that we should head for the motel. You two run over to the motel, and open the door. No one is at the desk, though there is a note on the counter.
"VISITORS: GO TO ROOM 351"
You head up to room 351, and there is a man there.
"Whoa!" the man yells. "Who the hell are you?" pointing a gun at Derek and you.
"I'm Detective-" Derek begins and the man fires a bullet in the wall.
"Jesus!" you shout, startled. "Let's get out of here!" Derek says. You and Derek run out, and head to room 400, a room considerably far away from 351. 400 is a nice room. "Let's just head to bed." you say.

THE NEXT DAY

Should we go exploring in this strange place or just hang out in the room?
