Tax the rich to support the poor?

No
Yes
I don't care

Author Topic: The Great Debate (Topic 1: Tax the rich to support the poor via the government?)  (Read 1738 times)

I don't get why we should tax the rich less than the poor. Can someone explain?
Its stupid imo.
I think it should be the other way around or make them equal.
Their taking more money from people who don't have it but the people who do have it pay almost none.

I think everyone who isn't a complete moron agrees that the rich should at least pay the same.

Yay I'm not a complete moron.

I don't get it either. It should be the more you make your taxes go up a little more. Of course those fat cats up there pay people to look for loop holes so they don't get taxed as much which probably explain there small tax rate that left wing media networks rant about.

I do agree that there are plenty of people who will not use any money given to them in any productive way, but is it possible to regulate this way? You could have some sort of program where homeless and jobless can apply for a job with no chance of rejection; only a wait-list if there weren't currently enough jobs. You could only apply once though, and if you didn't behave well and work hard, you'd be kicked out of the program permanently. During this period any rehabilitation necessary would be given free. After the 6 months, if successful, you would be given options on how and when to pay back what you have costed the government. You'd probably also be granted some kind of certificate testifying your aptitude for work.
Those who drop out of the program would receive less payment from the government than before, if any at all.

Capital gains tax:

If you pay less than 20% in taxes (perhaps through other loopholes), you'd be paying 0% on capital gains held for longer than a year.

It should just be made the same as income.
