Author Topic: Are people really allowed to take a persons belongings if they are trespassing?  (Read 2596 times)

I'd like to know what you guys think; are people in the right when they take a persons belongings, if they happen to be caught trespassing?

Ex: A security catches a kid trespassing and takes his skateboard and tells him to leave; first offense

Ex2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A54P05aVODU&feature=endscreen

I believe the security guard jumps to conclusions too quickly; and instead of taking the skateboard should have simply asked them to leave, who knows? maybe it wouldn't have turned into a fight

But that still leaves the question as to whether or not he is even obligated to take the skateboard

Well if he can get it back, sure why not?

Well if he can get it back, sure why not?

Actually in the video; the security guard never even mentioned that he could regain his belongings

I don't think they should have the right to take personal property. Why not just call the cops or contact the child's parents?

I believe it should start off as a simple "hey, this is private property, could you move somewhere else"

Yes it should start off this way but what if the kid tells you to forget off

bitch slap him and tell him to get out

Yes it should start off this way but what if the kid tells you to forget off
Well even then, I believe he should keep his cool unless they actually get physically hostile

that or call the cops at that point

Thats cool but what if he refuses to leave your yard? If you touch him it doesn't matter if he is on your property or not you can be sued

Cops/Parents = Only option(s) for stubborn kid

In Kentucky a trespasser can be shot if the owner has a "No Trespassing" sign.
Harsh isn't it?

And I believe that people should be able to get their stuff back/not even have it taken in the first place. Unless they a went onto that property just for the means of trespassing.

that guard was obviously being set up, and honestly he seems nervous. no doubt the kids had been harassing him a while before that and when the guard decided to actually do something about it, theyre like "OMG CHILD ABOOSE."

the clip youre seeing is obviously taken out of context, and like most people in situations like these, the kids doing the filming are trying to play the victim card.

i think if someones stupid enough to tresspass somewhere that is obviously private property and get caught, then they obviously deserve to get their skateboard taken away.

Not really, it's still the owners choice to shoot, so it's still open to circumstances.

America, that place where teens and cops tell each other to forget off.
