Author Topic: Bill Nye kicks Creationism in the loving face  (Read 2746 times)

The Gallup Poll has been tracking Americans' views on creation and evolution for the past 30 years.  In June it released its latest findings, which showed 46% of Americans believed in creationism, 32% believed in evolution guided by God, and 15% believed in atheistic evolution.

During the 30 years Gallup has conducted the survey, creationism has remained far and away the most popular answer, with 40% to 47% of Americans surveyed saying they believed that God created humans in their present form at one point within the past 10,000 years.

Just saying that you shouldn't call people stupid when you don't even know the difference between You're and Your.
Take a hint, stop derailing the topic

Proven false? More like forced to be revised.
forced to be revised because the old version was proven false
not that the 'revision' is any less false

In my experience, It's pretty much impossible to reverse religion at this point.
How could anyone have any experience in this? No one's been alive long enough to see the full life course of a religion

Yes but it's believed that the being they believe in overrides all the proof. Every change of heart you've ever seen over the internet is probably a facade compromise. Religion fights over the internet does nothing but rustle jimmies.

I thought bill nye was dead.

I'm talking about things like the bible claiming the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, that the moon creates its own light, and that it rained enough to flood the entire world, just to name a few.

If god were real there wouldn't be multiple religions  :cookieMonster:

Christian mentions God. Is shoving religion down someones throat.

Atheist accuses and banters Christian for believing in God. Completely acceptable.

Atheist tells people what to believe. Acceptable.

What a nice way to blanket insult/demonize a group of people who don't agree with that ideology.

Not every atheist is trying to indoctrinate/deconvert Christians. However if I see someone literally destroying scientific terminology, I'm going to correct them.

The difference is that Christians use their religious beliefs to influence things, such as government policies, that make a difference to everyone, including non-religious

This statement seems to imply that every Christian is attempting to convert non-christians

Your statement seems to imply you're loving handicapped.

Where did I say Christians are attempting to convert non-christians? I was defending atheists from Jeep's generalization, not making a witty insult against Christians.

I interpreted your post as you saying the difference between Christians bashing atheists and atheists bashing Christians in that not every atheist is trying to convert Christians; thus implying that every Christian attempts to convert non-christians.
All I'm asking is to clarify your post if that's not what you're saying. No need to get all pissy.

When you are in put your name into a group, you are part of a Stereotype. True or not true to your particular beliefs, it's reality.

You saw very clearly in Bill's article that he told people that they shouldn't believe in any religions. Telling someone what to believe and what to have their kids believe is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. People make their own choices. Just because someone believes in God certainly is not a qualifier for being an incompetent person. That is regardless of what you believe.

I have no issue with him expressing his opinion on Creationism. But when he starts telling people what to believe, and what to tell their kids to believe.. And that people who don't believe in this are stupid...

Okay wow, let me answer this properly.

  • Offering your opinion is telling people what to believe. There is no other motivation for sharing a point of view other than having other people share it. Just because it's diligently worded doesn't make it different.
  • Believing in religion is faith from a stance of ignorance, a trait of human behavior basically responsible for everything from mob mentality to riots. Bill Nye is telling people to not teach their kids creationism so they can use the vast quantity of information available at their fingertips on the internet to make their own decision. Evolution: Researched for decades, tons of proof points to it's validity. Creationism: Faith from a book written a long time ago.
  • Stereotypes are not indicative of personal choice. Just because you associate a specific trait or personality with a group doesn't mean the second someone joins the group they inherit that trait. That makes absolutely no loving sense along with the rest of your contradictory and ignorant post.

Telling someone what to believe and what to have their kids believe, is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
