Author Topic: What's up with Red Guy's City RPG?  (Read 1753 times)

It's been up and running often, but not always, for several years now. The thing is, nobody goes on it......it's just......there. Was there a time when it was really popular, and then just everybody got bored with it?

People got bored.

And yes, it has been running a really long time.

i wonder how much money he's spent on running that server.

Electricity isn't expensive.

Running a low-power computer (100W, easy to reach without running a GPU) all the time is the same as running two old lightbulbs all the time.

i thought his server was one of those good, not lag spikes all the time kind of servers.

Most of the time, internet is the issue, not the computer.

I host 2 servers a single core 1.6GHz intel atom on ubuntu 12.04.

never lags unless the internet drops, or if someone does something stupid on one server.

His CityRPG uses RP Core, and Red_Guy is a person who horribly scripts his big mods (Look at unlimitedmining, the source code is horribly indented).

Basically, it became the Berlin, Nevada of blockland, slowly but surely getting dusty and old.

holy forget

Why would you host 2 blockland servers on the lowest-class Intel CPU available?

How are people not lagging with a loving Intel ATOM processor?!

Blockland dedicated servers require minimal resources if there's only 1-4 players.

Also, I bet people could run a dedi server that has a 4-player 1000-brick cap on a Pentium I/II processor.

My minicity, with 160k bricks and 0 players, takes up 300MB of memory. Bricks are nothing.

It's a low-class computer we were just going to throw out, so I took it and set it up for a server or two. I use it for backup as well.

It works fine, even on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu uses 386MB minimum of RAM, good for an atom laptop. Wine probably uses some RAM, though.

Windows 2000 uses 64MB RAM and a 133MHz Pentium processor minimum, but you probably aren't used to using it or hate it. I don't really care about the UI, though. Also, a dedicated server of blockland probably might be able to run on Windows 2000 (someone should test this).

If a dedicated server can't run on Windows 2000, then it can most definitely run on Windows XP, which calls for 128MB RAM and a 300MHz Pentium processor.

I don't have a disc for 2000 and my hard drive will fail after a day on XP (tried a reinstall 4 times), so I just resorted to using that.

o, and you miiight want to snip the image lol

Because he is using RP core, an outdated RPG mod.

He should try events, like me.
