What does "bump" mean?

I know I might be stupid to say this, but what does the word "bump" mean?

A way of "bumping" the topic from a previous page to the top of the first page. Simple as that.

to "bump up" or keep a topic alive. to move up.

When you post in a topic it gets pushed to the top of the first page. If it's on the second page or somewhere people are less likely to see it you can "bump" the topic to the first page by posting in it.
