I was attempting to make a face for blockland in GIMP, and I was wondering:

How do you make the background transparent.

Whenever I try to, the whole image dissapears.

Use the magic wand.
Set "Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel"
That should help. I'm bad at explaining.
