i've seen other forums that have a little "like" thing at the bottom of the post saying "x, y, z, and # others liked this"
i dont know what it really accomplishes, but it's there
unless this is like a certain amount of dislikes hides the post, in which case it becomes reddit and everyone sticks their head in the sand and dislikes everything they don't agree with and you have to pander to the popular opinion to not get downvoted

mixed feelings

on one hand you'd know which posts are dumb and which aren't and people might feel more compelled to not be so stupid, but on the other hand if you piss someone off or become the target of a troll you're on your way to oblivion

I do somewhat like facepunch's post rating system more than a simple up/down though
